Listeners have to applaud the singer-songwriter artistry of Bill Schereck in his A Texas State of Mind CD--smiling knowingly as he sings "A Dance or Two" and then wiping away their tears as he spins the tale of a life fully engaged in "I Wouldn't Change A Thing". His diverse range of songs connects with a mature audience that both knows what life is really about and welcomes hearing about the joys and sorrows of real life melodiously expressed by this talented storyteller. Even young adults, with more than a roses and lollipops view of reality, are sure to appreciate Schereck's road ahead perspective and his enthusiasm as an entertainer.

Bill Schereck saw the Sixties. The musical influences from those times are evident in Schereck's songs. While he's taken lessons from each decade since, yes even the Seventies, the bottom line is that Schereck's music is a blend of all he's learned with the strength that only the Sixties could have taught him. The 2005 release is "A TEXAS STATE OF MIND" and this disc is a great listen. Schereck's self-studio recording is full of great lyrics, well-crafted arrangements, and excellent harmonies. There are a couple of songs that lean toward country, but even those songs have traditional folk undercurrents as Schereck delivers crisp clean lyrics with his smooth comfortable voice. The rockin' side of Schereck comes out on "The Roadie Song" recorded in 1974 as the then-youngster belts out a Southern Rock roadhouse kicker. The final cut is in Spanish, showing even more of Schereck's diversity. Bill Schereck is a talented singer and writer, as well as an accomplished guitarist. He had a little help from Ian Dickson on this album, but for the most part it's all Schereck, and it's alright.

DALLAS SONGWRITER RECOGNIZED BY INTERNATIONAL CONTEST

Dallas resident, Bill Schereck was recently named a Finalist in the Country Category by the VH-1 Song of the Year (http://www.songoftheyear.com/) songwriting contest. Song of the Year is an international songwriting contest supporting VH-1’s “Save the Music” Foundation. The Song of the Year judges are some of the biggest names in music including many Grammy Award winners.

Song of the Year is excited to recognize Bill for his exceptional songwriting ability for the song “A Dance or Two”. Bill competed against thousands of songwriters from all over the world for this honor. When asked what inspired the song Schereck commented, “Many of the so-called ‘experts’ I had sent songs to said that only songs written for a young audience had a chance. But at my live performances, I kept seeing a more mature audience who, like myself, still loved the music. The song was written for them.”

Bill has just released his first CD Album entitled, A TEXAS STATE OF MIND on the independent label, Forum Records. The CD is now available in several record stores and Bill hopes to receive radio airplay soon as well.

Most recently Bill has been performing live at the Dallas Songwriters Association and the Tredway and Friends Showcases, as well as other area venues. He is also a semi-finalist in the Randy White BBQ Songwriters Contest sponsored by KHYI 93.5 FM, and will be performing in competition with other semi-finalists Wednesday evening, September 21st at the Addison location.
